The Best Of Both Worlds: Silk Wool

With the cold weather comes the need to dress warmly. For women this can be fun, as it means time for a wardrobe change, but it can also be difficult to find clothes that are comfortable, look great, and keep you warm. Some synthetic materials keep in warmth but they aren’t so good at letting your skin breathe. Natural materials are a better option.

Wool is one of the textiles that is well known for being very warm. Unfortunately it also has a reputation for not being the most comfortable type of material to wear. This is because wool consists of a fiber that comes from the coat of sheep and often the hairs are thick and coarse, making clothing made from it cause itchiness where it touches the skin.

There are a few ways wool can be made less itchy and more delicate. First of all there are different grades of wool. Some has finer fibers that are softer to the touch. Merino sheep have a soft type of wool that is more comfortable. Cashmere is a type of wool that comes from goats and is extremely soft and luxurious, but these types of wool are quite expensive.

Fortunately there are some things that can be done to regular wool to make it less scratchy. First of all the finer wool can be separated from the coarser, decreasing the scratchiness. Also, wool is often blended with other, softer textiles to create a material that is more pleasant to the touch.

One type of wool blend is silk wool. This is the perfect combination. Silk is known for being extremely smooth, soft and luxurious, but it is also a very cool material. Wool is a very warm and cozy textile, but is neither soft nor smooth. Bringing these two together is the perfect way to balance the characteristics of each.

Silk wool has all the warmth of wool, without the itchiness. It has the soft, delicate feel of silk, without the breeziness. It is sturdy like wool, but light like silk. Unlike most woolen fabrics, silk wool is not dull in appearance but has a satiny sheen that adds to the extravagance. It is perfect for women’s sweaters and other garments and also is fantastic for men’s jackets and suits.

When it’s time to get bundled up, you don’t have to pile on the cotton layers in order to wear a comfortable, breathable material that will also keep you warm. Silk wool gives you the best of both worlds, the warmth of hardy wool and the softness of delicate silk. Silky wool is the perfect answer in the quest for the perfect wintertime material that both looks great and feels great while keeping you warm.
